The Human Evolution Research Institute (HERI) at UCT has a number of funding opportunities available for PhD and postdoc students for the academic years 2020 – 2022.
The funding is part of HERI’s alignment with the Advancing Womxn initiative led by the Office of the Vice Chancellor. These opportunities are specifically for black women or trans students.
Advancing Womxn PhD Fellowships:
Two PhD Fellowships
120k/yr for study from 2020 – 2022
Advancing Womxn Postdoc Fellowship:
One Postdoc Fellowship
225k/yr for study from 2020 – 2022
Additional funding is also available for MSc and PhD students of all backgrounds that support HERI’s goal to grow the diversity of voices within the palaeosciences.
Applicants should show a passion for investigating human origins, specifically South Africa’s record of human evolution including:
Middle Stone Age archaeology
Biological Anthropology / Palaeoanthropology
Chronology and palaeoclimate records of the last 2 million years
