HERI opens call for two postdoc positions

The Human Evolution Research Institute (HERI) at University of Cape Town (UCT) has two funding opportunities available for postdoctoral research fellows.

Carnegie DEAL

  • Postdoc position

  • 2 years of study (2021-2022)

  • R300,000 per year

  • African students, with PhD in palaeoclimate or related discipline

NRF African Origins Platform

  • Postdoc position

  • 1 year of study (2021 only)

  • R220,000 per year

  • For students with PhD in biological anthropology or related discipline

Applicants for the Carnegie DEAL position must be from the continent and ideally hold a PhD in palaeoclimate or a related discipline. All applicants for the NRF AOP position are welcome, but must hold a PhD in biological anthropology or a related discipline.

Applicants should also show a passion for investigating human origins, specifically South Africa’s record of human evolution including:

  • Biological Anthropology / Palaeoanthropology (specific for the NRF AOP position)

  • Chronology of human evolution

  • Palaeoclimate records of the last 2 million years
